So what is InterVarsity Christian Fellowship?

We are an interdemonimational campus ministry that is open to anyone who wants to learn more about JESUS.

 

No matter what denomination, church or religion you come from – you are welcome here!

No matter where you’re at in terms of your faith - even if you’re just “checking things out” – you are welcome here!

InterVarsity is open to anyone who wants to learn more about God and grow in thier faith.  We want to assure you that in no way will you “pressured” in any way, shape or form.  You will not be judged in any way- WE DON’T JUDGE.  There are no “holy-rollers” in InterVarsity – we’re just regular people who want to learn more about JESUS and be like Him.

 

Our Vision:

 

Our vision is simple: “Every student transformed.”  EVERY STUDENT, and staff, and faculty, TRANSFORMED by JESUS.  EVERY ONE. Femi

 

This means:

Large group meetings every Wednesday / AWSOME Praise & Worship / small group Bible studies / fun & “edgy” meetings / living out our beliefs / prayer / trained leaders / fellowship / going DEEPER / another large group on Sunday evenings / Relationships / feeding the hungry / regular outreach events / big name speakers / social justice / Arizona mission trip & more! / presence of the Holy Spirit / dicipleship / Leadership training / relevant teaching / Bringing Jesus’ words to life / being real / prayer partners /  prayer teams / servanthood / forgivness / meaning / purpose / direction / a family / A MOVEMENT

 

Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.  They will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

 

At InterVarsity Christian Fellowship we’re going to do what JESUS did.

And we’re asking Him for the entire campus.

 

 

How is InterVarsity different from other campus ministries?

 

First, we are completely student run & student led.  Students do the ministry.

 

Second, our focus is on JESUS.  We don’t do “religion.”  NO RELIGION.  Instead we want to study the life of JESUS, learning His way of living, loving, and making a difference in the lives of people.  It’s about JESUS, same teachings, same actions, same attitudes, same philosophy.

 

Third, we emphasize “Whole Christianity,” not just one part.  While some ministries focus more on the Holy Spirit (for example) or on evangelism or some other aspect of Christianity, InterVarsity emphasizes the whole package: 

WORSHIP – getting to know & love God better

FELLOWSHIP – building relationships with other believers, coming together as a family

DICIPLESHIP – becoming more like JESUS

MINISTRY – Serving God by serving others; making a real difference in the lives of real people, making a difference

EVANGELISM – Sharing the Good News of JESUS.

 

Fourth, we go DEEPER.  We take a more intellectual approach to Christianity – focusing not just on the “what” of faith, but also the “how” and “why” of faith.  We don’t believe in dogma (saying “it is because it is”).  We believe that we can ask the really tough questions – that’s perfectually okay, God can handle it!  Our goal is a DEEPER understaning of God.

 

Fifth, we are a ministry of ALL NATIONS.  We want to have as many international students involved as possible!  Our goal is to be the most multi-cultural minstry on campus!!  The Biblical of Christianity is “every tribe & tongue!”

 

Sixth, InterVarsity is a “hands & feet” ministry.  This means that social justice is a key component of everything we do.  It means that we feed the poor, take care of the homeless, stand up for the oppressed, reach out to the marginalized, and more!!  We believe that we are called upon to make a real difference in the lives of real people, doing God’s will and bringing Him glory in the process!  As His word says, “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with ACTIONS and in TRUTH.” (1 John 3:18)

 

Seventh,we stess an AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANITY.  For one thing that means that we are not perfect & we don’t claim to be – we are real people trying to follow the way of Jesus the best way we know how.  It also means that we strive to “live out” our faith – actually doing the things that JESUS talked about!
